Baby Scrapbook Ideas
June 15th, 2015 by best

Getting baby scrapbook ideas is fun! And creating a scrapbook for a baby is an amazing experience. As you go through all the photos they will bring back a lot of fond memories, and now you can create a scrapbook that will help others re-live all the wonderful times you had watching your child grow up.

This scrapbook is going to stay with your all forever, so let’s make it a good one!

Step 1 – Get Some Photos

Depending on how old your child is now will determine the flow of this book. If your child is is still under a few years old, then this scrapbook should not be completely filled yet, as you may want to add to it later on. If you child is may 10 now, and you want this book to only go up to that age, then feel free to grab as many photos as you can.

Step 2 – Think of Your Theme

If your child grew up with certain colors, then the materials you choose to make for this book should reflect that. It will add a lot of personality to your scrapbook, and set you apart from other people.

Step 3 – Plan Out the Progression

Depending on how many pages are in your scrapbook you could dedicate a two-age spread to a certain age of your child. For instance, if you have 10 pages, and this book will be from years 1 to 5 of your child, then the first two pages will be year 1, the next two pages is year 2, and so one. If you have 30+ pages, try to keep the same amount of pages for each year. So if you use 6 pages for year 1, then use 6 pages for years 2, 3 and 4 as well.

Step 4 – Layout

Start laying out the materials you want to use on each page. Try to use materials that match the colors you child may have worn growing up, but also colors that match in to the photos as well. If your baby is wearing all green in the photo, try to find a color to use as the background that compliments that green clothing. It will really tie in your book – which is why a mock-up of the whole book is very important before any glue hits the paper.

You can use sticky-tack to adhere the background to the scrapbook, and then sticky-tack again to attach the photos and other embellishments around the page and photos.

Step 5 – Almost Done

Once you are happy with your layouts and colors choices, leave the scrapbook alone for a few days. Come back to your scrapbook after 3 or 4 days to see if you’re still happy with the colors, layout, embellishments, and so on. If you are, great! If not, now is the time to make changes.

I personally like to do this as after a few days you may change your mind. A decision you made in the spur of the moment may not be one you want to keep later on.

Step 6 – All Done

Take your scrapbook apart, one page at a time, and put it back together again, this time with some glue!

Also there you have it, a well thought out scrapbook of your baby using my baby scrapbook ideas method!

Scrapbooking Supplies
June 14th, 2015 by best

When you scrapbook you are going to need a lot of scrapbooking supplies. This can be a wide range of items, since the world of scrapbooking is so diverse. There are papers, ribbons, fabrics, adhesives, kits, and so much more. You should see how many supplies I have on hand at any moment in my scrapbooking room. In this article we will dive into some of the common things you will need for scrapbooking.

Paper – Scrapbooking Supplies

Paper is key to a good scrapbook. Not only will you cover a lot of the scrapbook pages with paper, but you will be cutting out shapes and designs from all different kinds of paper. Paper comes in many different thickness’s, called “weight”. Here is an article that talks a little bit more about paper weight.

Depending on what you plan to do with the paper, you will want the correct weight. If you plan on folding the paper a few times, then a heavy paper weight isn’t ideal since it may not bend much, and if it does bend, it may break.

Once you have planned out a page in your scrapbook, check out stores that sell paper that fit in with your plan. If you buy you items online, like I do, you can go to Amazon and purchase a lot of different types of paper to suit your needs. I buy a few at a time, because you never know how well it will suit your photos until it’s on the page.

Now that we have our paper all set it’s time to move on to ribbon!

Ribbon – Scrapbooking Supplies

Ribbon is an amazing way I like to add flair to my scrapbooks. I like to outline the edges of photos, and I will even place the ribbon around the whole page if my photos allow for it. If you want to fold the ribbon into a bow and place it underneath a photo it will add lots of style – especially baby photos.

Ribbons come in many style, just like paper, making it so much fun to play with. Ribbon can be small or wide, and you should always keep a lot of ribbon on hand, as it’s very cheap, and easy to pick up.

Just look at how much ribbon you can buy for next to nothing

Outline a page would usually require a thicker ribbon, while outlining a photo would use a smaller sized ribbon. Ribbons can also be lace, opaque, or have fun designs in them. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination.

Stickers – Scrapbooking Supplies

When you think of stickers, you are probably thinking about stickers that your children, or nieces and nephews play with. Well, stickers have come along way! You can add tons of flair to your amazing scrapbook with elegant stickers and floral designs.

Click the link below to see the stickers I bought!

Those black stickers above add a lot of charm and style my scrapbook. I added photos of my mom and dad, and the black and white photos with the black stickers really made the book feel personal and kept the theme going.

Stickers aren’t just designs either. When I make a scrapbook that has a family theme I will buy a sticker that says “Family”, or “Cousins”, to go with the photos. Stickers can even has full quotes on them too. As I said earlier, the world of stickers have come pretty far in the past decade, and you are only limited by your imagination.

Scrapbooking Ideas For Beginners
June 8th, 2015 by best

In this article, scrapbooking ideas for beginners, we will go over some topics and ideas that you may want to do on your own!

Books – Scrapbooking Ideas for Beginners

A lot of scrapbookers like to have one full scrapbook that goes over a certain theme. This theme could be anything. Remember back in the day when your mom would show your “baby book” to all of your friends an embarrased you? Well, that scrapbook had one full theme: babies.

If you choose to make a full scrapbook with one theme, pick out a theme where you can fill the entire book – all the pages. If you pick a “hiking” theme, but you don’t go hiking often, then it may be hard to fill a full book and it may be better to choose a them of “out door adventures”. That way you can put any picture that you take outdoors into it, and you’re likely to fill the scrapbook with no problem.

Designs – Scrapbooking Ideas for Beginners

If you pick one theme to run with for the book, dress up the front and back of your scrapbook with items taht relate to that them. If you choose to do a baby book, consider choosing a color for the book that matches the colors you dress your baby in.Be creative. It you are doing a scrapbook for your son and you dress him in blue and green often, choose those colors throughout the book.

For extra flair you can even take some of his old colthes, cut out shapes and designs, and use those on the pages inside the book. That what this book is completely cutomized for him using his clolors and even some of his old clothes.

Topics – Scrapbooking Ideas for Beginners

Finding a topic is pretty easy. When you look around your home and your daily activities you can brainstorm a lot of ideas. I’m suer you have some really close friends. Maybe there is a place your family went to every year, or every few years on vacation.

Here is just a small list of topics that you can choose from

  • Best friends
  • Cousins you love
  • Mom and dad
  • Babies
  • Fun times at the lake
  • Hiking
  • Outdoor adventures
  • Trying new foods
  • Travelling around your state/province
  • Travelling to other countries
  • Driving in your old car

The possibilities are endless. Even if you only go hiking a few times, take a lot of photos, and alternate photos. That way your main photo on the page has some supporting photos to go with it. That’s a great way to fill up space.

Final – Scrapbooking Ideas for Beginners

I hope you now have a few ideas on where you can go with a scrapbook: anywhere!

Scrapbooking Ideas For Couples
June 7th, 2015 by best

If you are in a relationship, or you know people who are, we have some scrapbooking ideas for couples you may want to make a scrapbook about.

Scrapbooking Ideas for Couples #1

If you are in a relationship, be sure to always take photos. If you are hanging out at home, on the back deck, or maybe you are on a vacation, you need to be taking photos along the way.

The easiest ways to take photos is on your cell phone. Most cell phones these days have great high-quality cameras that will take clear enough shots to have photos printed. If you have a digital camera, even better. Any camera over 4 megapixels should be good enough for your scrapbook.

As you take photos, remember that if you put them into a scrapbook that you may want extra photos for context. If you are on a hike and taking photos together, try to take photos of the surrounding area as well. Take photos of road signs as you enter the area – it will help add to the scrapbook and over all feeling.

Finally, take lots of photos with different angles. If you take one photo you may get home and see something in the photo that you don’t want there forever. By taking multiple photos you can select the best one out of the group.

Scrapbooking Ideas for Couples #2

If you are trying to make a scrapbook for a couple, this section is for you.

People like to go through a scrapbook and remember the happy times. If you have a couple in mind, try to think of the best times you’ve spent with them, or times they’ve come back from somewhere and said it was the best time they ever had.

Go through your own photos of those times or have family members try to get you those photos. From here you can start to build a scrapbook out of all the images.

Putting photos in of sad times can be helpful for mourning, but don’t go overboard. If there is a family pet that passed away, try to get photos where they are having fun with that pet. You want to bring up emotions that are happy and positive – moments they want to cherish forever.

Scrapbooking Layouts
June 7th, 2015 by best

Thinking of good scrapbooking layouts can be a tough task. It’s one thing to have ideas of what you want to do, but putting them into a book is the hard part. You don’t want to keep repeating the same layouts, but how many options are there?

 Centre Photo

One of the most common scrapbooking layouts is having the photo in the centre of the page. Doing this brings your focus right to it, but it can also leave a lot of blank space around the photo. With this blank space you can add embellishments and extra personal flair. Try to find something in the photo, or maybe even something that you remember about the time you took the photo to place around it.

For example, if the photo is a photo of you and your friend hiking, why not keep a leaf from the trip, or maybe even a trinket from something that happened to you guys on your way to the hike?

Top Center Photo

Placing a photo in the top half of the scrapbook page is great for scrapbooking layouts. It leaves lots of room underneath it for add ons. If you remember my hiking example above, you could take three additional photos you took during that hike and place them below. That way you have one big photo and three supporting, or enhancing photos. Maybe there was a sunset, some wildlife, and a stream that you took pictures of. Maybe you want to add three more photos of you with this special friend. You could center you main photo, and underneath have two photos with that friend and a small bit of text that says where you were, the date, and how much fun you had.

Many Small Photos

The final type of scrapbooking layouts is having many photos. Most of the time about 6 photos will fit on one page. You could possibly have 5 photos, and the center area could be a write up that discusses the theme you were trying to go for. For example, if you have 5 cousins, the blank center space could say “2015 – Family get-together with all the cousins!” or it could say, “Best hike ever – I have amazing cousins”. That way it gives context to the photos on the page.

 Final Scrapbooking Layouts Thoughts

The sky is the limit when it comes to scrapbooking layouts. Depending on the size of the photos you use there are even more layouts than these main ones we have mentioned.
